On March 2nd, the fifth version of the distribution was released Porteus Kiosk 5.0.0, based on Gentoo Linux, and designed for the rapid deployment of demonstration stands and self-service terminals. The image size is only 104 MB.
The distribution includes a minimal environment necessary to run a web browser (Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome) with restricted permissions — changes to settings, installation of extensions or applications are prohibited, and access to pages not on the whitelist is blocked. A pre-installed ThinClient is available to operate the terminal as a thin client.
The configuration of the distribution is carried out through a special setup wizard — KIOSK WIZARD.
After loading, the OS verifies all components using checksums, and the system is mounted in read-only mode.
