The Linux-Hardware.org project, based on collected telemetry data over the year, determined that rare releases of the most popular Linux distributions, and consequently the use of not the latest kernels, create compatibility issues with hardware for 13% of new users.
For example, the majority of new Ubuntu users over the past year were offered Linux kernel 5.4 as part of release 20.04, which currently lags in hardware support compared to the current kernel 5.13 by more than a year and a half. The best performance is shown by Rolling distributions, including Manjaro Linux (which offered kernels from 5.7 to 5.13 over the year), but they lag behind popular leader distributions.
