Open-source DBMS PostgreSQL recognized as DBMS of the year by the international portal DB-Engines. It exhibited the best growth dynamics in popularity and maintained its leadership among over 400 systems surveyed. PostgreSQL topped the ranking for the fifth time — it had previously led the growth dynamics in 2017, 2018, 2020, and 2023.
DB-Engines measures the popularity of DBMS by analyzing the number of mentions on websites, search frequency on Google Trends, technical discussions of systems on IT sites, as well as the number of job postings and social media posts mentioning DBMS.
As of the end of 2024, PostgreSQL retained its position in the absolute world popularity ranking, holding the 4th place behind Oracle, MySQL, and Microsoft SQL Server. In Russia, the demand for PostgreSQL continues to grow. According to Google Trends analytics for 2024, the popularity of PostgreSQL is 97% higher than Oracle (+42% YoY), 118% higher than MySQL (+57% YoY), and 420% higher than MS SQL Server (+30% YoY).
Significant contributions to the development of PostgreSQL come from Russian developers, primarily the company Postgres Professional, which consistently ranks in the 2-4 positions among the system's contributors, surpassing IT giants like Amazon, Google, Apple, and others. Each year, the company submits over 100 code enhancements to PostgreSQL, and its employees have received numerous individual awards from the community. For their work on the latest version, PostgreSQL 17, the community expressed gratitude to 39 developers from the Postgres Pro team.

For the past 10 years, Postgres Professional has been developing educational materials on PostgreSQL — publishing books, webinars, and educational courses in the public domain. The company collaborates with over 20 educational organizations, providing free licenses for software to Russian universities and colleges, has opened a unique laboratory at NSU, organizes student hackathons and competitions, conducts summer schools for students and schoolchildren, and much more.
