Unlocking the potential of the AMD Radeon RX 5700 series graphics cards has proven to be quite simple. How by Igor Wallossek, the chief editor of the German version of Tom’s Hardware, is that it's sufficient to raise the power consumption limits of the graphics cards using SoftPowerPlayTable (SPPT).

This method of increasing graphics card performance is relatively straightforward in implementation, but it can be quite dangerous for the graphics card itself. Additionally, only reference versions of the Radeon RX 5700 and RX 5700 XT are currently available on the market, and their cooling systems may simply not be able to handle the increased heat output.

For such experiments, it is better to use water blocks. For instance, our German colleague recently used a newly released full-cover water block from . It is noted that without a more powerful cooling system, the graphics card is likely to reach its maximum allowable temperature rather than unlock its full potential.

In his experiment, Igor Wallossek raised the power consumption limit of the Radeon RX 5700 XT by a significant 95%. Despite this, the actual power consumption did not increase as dramatically: from 214 W to approximately 250 W. However, spikes in consumption were observed up to 300–320 W, with the core voltage reaching 1.25 V. In this mode, the clock frequencies of the new AMD graphics card reached around 2.2 GHz, which is an impressive result.

As for performance tests, the maximum overclocking at the highest power consumption allowed the Radeon RX 5700 XT to surpass the overclocked GeForce RTX 2070 Super and closely approach the GeForce RTX 2080 in the game Shadows of the Tomb Raider. This is truly impressive and also gives hope that AMD's AIB partners will release really powerful custom versions of the Radeon RX 5700 series graphics cards.
