Testing has begun on the new web browser Opera One, which will replace the current Opera browser once stabilized. Opera One continues to use the Chromium engine and features a completely redesigned modular architecture, a multithreaded rendering organization, and new tab grouping capabilities. This separate rendering thread offloads work from the main thread responsible for forming the interface, resulting in smoother output and avoiding delays caused by blocking in the main thread.
To simplify navigation through a large number of open pages, the "Tab Islands" concept has been proposed, which allows similar pages to be automatically grouped based on the context of navigation (work, shopping, entertainment, travel, etc.). Users can quickly switch between different groups and collapse tab islands to free up space on the toolbar for other tasks. Each tab island can have its own color scheme for the window.
The sidebar has been modernized, allowing management of workspaces with tab groups, placing buttons for accessing multimedia services (Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer, Tidal) and messengers (Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, Telegram). Additionally, the modular architecture allows for the integration of extra features into the browser, such as interactive assistants based on machine learning services like ChatGPT and ChatSonic, which can also be embedded in the sidebar.
