ISPsystem, a Russian IT company that develops software for hosting automation, virtualization, and data center monitoring, has unveiled its new product, 'Vepp'. This new panel for managing servers and websites.
Vepp targets technically inexperienced users who want to quickly create their website while ensuring reliability and security. It features an intuitive interface.
One of the conceptual differences from the previous panel, ISPmanager 5, is that the panel is generally not installed directly on the managed server. Management proxy server is done remotely via SSH.
Current features of Vepp include:
- Linux: CentOS 7 (support for Ubuntu 18.04 is promised).
- Web server: Apache and Nginx.
- PHP: PHP in CGI mode, versions from 5.2 to 7.3. Configure options include: time zone, disabling functions, error output, upload file size, memory limit, and data volume sent to the site.
- Database: MariaDB, support for phpMyAdmin. You can rename, delete, add users, create backups, upload backups, and delete databases.
- Domain management: editing and creating records: A, AAAA, NS, MX, TXT, SRV, CNAME, DNAME. If no domain exists, Vepp will create a technical one.
- Mail: Exim, creating mailboxes, management through a mail client.
- Backups: full.
- CMS support: WordPress (latest version), support for a template catalog.
- SSL certificate: issuing a self-signed certificate, installing Let’s Encrypt, automatic switch to HTTPS, adding your own certificate.
- FTP user: automatically created.
- File manager: creation, deletion of files and folders, downloading, uploading, archiving, and extracting.
- Cloud installation: tested on Amazon EC2.
- Website availability monitoring.
- Works behind NAT.
Currently, Vepp is not a complete replacement for ISPmanager 5. ISPsystem still supports ISPmanager 5 and releases security updates.
