Simon Josefsson, who maintains 170 packages in Debian, announced the Debian Libre Live Images project, providing Debian GNU/Linux builds free from non-free components, such as firmware blobs. According to a decision made in 2022, the official Debian ISO images now include both free firmware from the main repository and proprietary firmware distributed through the non-free-firmware repository. The presented project has begun to create editions of official live images for the amd64 architecture, allowing users to run or install Debian 13 without using non-free components.
