Mozilla has updated the support information page for Firefox on Windows 7, 8, and 8.1 platforms, noting that the final release of the ESR branch, Firefox 115, will be published on February 24, after which updates will cease. At the same time, a label regarding the end of support for Firefox 115 has been added to the ESR update release schedule page.
Initially, the support period for the Firefox 115 ESR branch was set to expire in September 2024, but it has been extended three times to March 2025, September 2025, and March 2026. Thus, the support period lasted almost three years instead of one. Firefox 115 was the last branch capable of running on Windows 7, 8, and 8.1, as well as macOS 10.12, 10.13, and 10.14.
According to Mozilla's statistics from February 9, 2026, 5.68% of Firefox users are still on Windows 7, despite Microsoft ending support for these operating systems in January 2020. In comparison, the share of Linux is estimated at 4.87%, macOS at 3.8%, Windows 11 at 45.4%, and Windows 10 at 32.8%. Support for Windows 7 and Windows 8 in Google Chrome ended in February 2023, and Firefox remained the only major browser supporting Windows 7/8.
