Google has launched a new mobile app for children called Read Along. With this app, elementary school-aged children will be able to improve their reading skills. The app currently supports several languages and is available for download from the Play Market digital content store.
Read Along is based on the educational app Bolo, which was launched in India a few months ago. At that time, the app supported English and Hindi. The updated and renamed version now supports nine languages, but unfortunately, Russian is not among them. It is likely that Read Along will continue to evolve in the future, and developers will add support for other languages.
The app uses speech recognition and text-to-speech technologies. For easier interaction, it features a built-in voice assistant, which will help children learn the correct pronunciation of words while reading. The interaction process with Read Along includes a gaming component, allowing children to earn rewards and additional content for completing various tasks.
"As many students are currently at home due to school closures, families around the world are looking for ways to help children develop their reading skills. To support families, we are providing early access to the Read Along app. This Android app for children aged 5 and up will help them learn to read by providing verbal and visual prompts as they read aloud," said Google in a statement.
It is also noted that Read Along was developed with consideration security and privacy, with no advertising content or in-app purchases.
