Sam Hartman, leader of the Debian project, while trying to resolve the disagreements between the maintainers of the elogind package (an interface for running GNOME 3 without systemd) and libsystemd, stemming from the conflict between these packages and the recent refusal by the release team to include elogind in the testing branch, has suggested the possibility of supporting multiple initialization systems in the distribution.
If project participants vote for the diversification of initialization systems, all maintainers will be involved in collaborative efforts to tackle this issue, or specific responsible developers will be appointed to address the matter, and maintainers will no longer be able to ignore the alternative initialization system, remain silent, or delay the process.
