The Pine64 project has introduced the PineTab2 tablet PC

The Pine64 community, dedicated to creating open devices, announced the beginning of production next year for the new PineTab2 tablet PC, built on the SoC Rockchip RK3566 with a four-core ARM Cortex-A55 processor (1.8 GHz) and ARM Mali-G52 EE GPU. The cost and availability for sale have not yet been determined; it is only known that the first samples for testing by developers will begin production after the Chinese New Year (January 22). The first model of the PineTab was available at a price of $120, while the PineNote e-reader on the same SoC was sold for $399.

Like the first model, the new PineTab features a 10.1-inch (IPS) display and comes with a detachable keyboard, allowing the device to be used like a regular laptop. The camera specifications remain the same: a rear 5MP camera, 1/4" (LED Flash), and a front 2MP camera (f/2.8, 1/5"), along with battery specifications (6000 mAh). Depending on the configuration, the RAM will be either 4 or 8 GB, and the storage (eMMC flash) will be either 64 or 128 GB (for comparison, the first PineTab was shipped with 2 GB of RAM and 64 GB of Flash). The ports mentioned include two USB-C ports (USB 3.0 and USB 2.0), micro HDMI, microSD, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

It has not yet been determined which Wi-Fi and Bluetooth modules will be used in the device. Additionally, it has not been announced which Linux distribution will be pre-installed. The first PineTab came with Ubuntu Touch from the UBport project by default, with additional options offering images of Manjaro Linux, PostmarketOS, Arch Linux ARM, Mobian, and Sailfish OS.
