A new web browser, Pulse Browser, is available for testing. Built on the Firefox codebase, it experiments with ideas to enhance usability and create a minimalist interface. Builds are available for Linux, Windows, and macOS. The code is distributed under the MPL 2.0 license.
The browser is notable for cleaning the code of components related to telemetry collection and replacing some standard features with open-source alternatives. For instance, to counteract tracking, an ad blocker, uBlock Origin, has been added to the base package. It also includes a QR Code Generator extension for generating QR codes linked to websites, and the Tabliss extension for a customizable new tab page.
Pulse Browser incorporates optimizations from the Betterfox project aimed at enhancing privacy, security, and performance. Additional services such as Pocket, accessibility tools, Firefox Sync, and Firefox View have been disabled. The interface features a sidebar for quick access to user-interest tools and sections, such as settings, bookmarks, and browsing history. By default, a panel with the most popular bookmarks is enabled below the address bar. The panels have been made narrower to take up less screen space.
