U.S. energy companies are forecasting an increase in electricity demand driven by the explosive growth of data center markets and generative AI. According to Datacenter Dynamics, many energy providers in the country are currently reassessing their capital expenditures in light of the rising demand from data centers. Analysts at Reuters reported that nine out of ten U.S. energy suppliers link the growth of their customer base and electricity demand to the data center industry, while only two of them considered potential data center growth in their forecasts last year. According to Newton Investment Management, the industry is expected to grow faster than in previous decades. Additionally, the rising energy demand raises concerns that generating capacity may simply be insufficient. Moreover, some experts believe that energy production is not keeping pace with the growth of data centers at all.
