The South Korean company Samsung is developing its own version of Apple's AirDrop technology, which allows users to share files without third-party applications. According to available data, the technology, named Quick Share, will soon be available to Samsung device owners running Android.
The Quick Share technology is a fairly simple tool for quickly sending files between two Samsung smartphones. The message states that the technology will work like similar solutions already available on the market. If two smartphones that support Quick Share are nearby, their owners will be able to share images, videos, and other files. There are two options for file sharing. By selecting 'Contacts only' in the Quick Share settings, you can send files to other Samsung Social users added to your contacts list. If you activate the 'Everyone' option, file sharing will be possible with any devices supporting Quick Share.
Unlike other similar services, the South Korean company's technology will allow temporarily uploading files to the Samsung Cloud, after which they can be shared with other users. The maximum allowed size for a file uploaded to the cloud is 1 GB, and up to 2 GB of data can be transferred there in one day.
Sources indicate that the Quick Share service may be launched alongside the Galaxy S20+ smartphone. It is likely that the feature will be supported on all Samsung devices with One UI 2.1 and later versions of the interface. It is also possible that Quick Share will be available on many older Samsung smartphones that receive software updates. The timing of the launch and the speed of the feature's rollout depend entirely on Samsung.
Recently, it became known that Google is preparing to release its own file-sharing solution called Nearby Sharing, which will be supported by Android smartphones.
