The developers of the LXQt desktop environment have announced 100% readiness for Wayland usage. The LXQt codebase has been updated to transition PCManFM-Qt to use the layer-shell-qt component, which enables desktop functionality in Wayland-based environments without additional hacks that circumvent compatibility with some composite managers like LabWC.
In its current form, LXQt is not tied to any specific composite managers and can be used with LabWC, WayFire, kwin_wayland, Sway, Hyprland, and possibly other Wayland-based composite managers. According to the previously published plan, LXQt 2.0, which will be ported to Qt 6 and Wayland, is expected to be released in April. The April release will by default introduce a new application menu called 'Fancy Menu,' which not only categorizes applications but also features a summary mode displaying all applications along with a list of frequently used applications.
