The results of the general voting (GR, general resolution) of the Debian project developers, who are involved in package maintenance and infrastructure support, have been published. The possibility of conducting secret votes was approved, which do not disclose the participants' choices (until now, complete lists with information about which options each voter selected were published after GR voting). The need for secret voting arose last year during the resolution regarding Richard Stallman, as not everyone was ready to openly express their position, since voicing their opinion could lead to subsequent harassment from supporters or opponents of Stallman.
During the current voting, the possibility of anonymizing participants' opinions (hiding information about who voted for what) was approved, while allowing for checks to prevent abuse during the vote counting. Secret general votes (GR) will be conducted similarly to the annual project leader elections, with separate publication of lists of participants and selected positions, without the possibility of determining which participant made a particular choice.
To prevent abuses by the responsible person conducting the vote counting, the possibility of independent verification of votes is established, and developers are required to create a mechanism that confirms their vote was counted in the results (a cryptographic hash is used when selecting a project leader, allowing participants to verify their vote inclusion, but this method is not secure against value enumeration and requires modernization, such as using hidden codes generated by the voting system for each developer during hash calculation).
