After the release of Red Hat Enterprise 9.3, the previous version Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.9 has been prepared. Rocky Linux has not yet released version 9.3. RHEL 8 will be supported without considering the extended phase until 2029. Support for CentOS Stream will be discontinued in 2024, and users are advised to either upgrade to CentOS Stream 9 or switch to RHEL/RHEL Clones.
The source code for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.9 is available only to subscribers on the access.redhat.com portal. Redistribution is prohibited under the terms of the user agreement.
What's new:
- Development tools have been updated: GCC Toolset 13, LLVM Toolset 16.0.6, Rust Toolset 1.71.1, Go Toolset 1.20.10, Node.js 20, Valgrind 3.21, SystemTap 4.9, elfutils 0.189, java-21-openjdk (java-17-openjdk, java-11-openjdk, and java-1.8.0-openjdk continue to be supplied).
- System components have been updated: samba 4.18.4, 389-ds-base 1.4.3.35, OpenSCAP 1.3.8, Grafana 9.2.10, opencryptoki 3.21.0, iproute 6.2.0, libnftnl 1.2.2, makedumpfile 1.7.2, Podman 4.6.
- The installation images have added the parameter 'inst.wait_for_disks', which specifies the waiting time for the kickstart file to load or for the drivers to be ready during boot.
- New options '—ipv4-dns-search' and '—ipv6-dns-search' have been added to the network command for kickstart files to set the basis domains for the 'search' directive in /etc/resolv.conf, as well as the options '—ipv4-ignore-auto-dns' and '—ipv6-ignore-auto-dns' to ignore obtaining DNS settings via DHCP.
- The fapolicyd service now includes rule numbers for denied API fanotify requests to simplify debugging issues.
- The Intel QAT driver has been backported with support for Intel Quick Assist Technology devices 401xx/402xx.
- Drivers for Thunderbolt/USB4 network devices (thunderbolt_net) and Broadcom 802.11 wireless adapters (brcmfmac) for ARM64 systems have been added. Drivers for MediaTek Bluetooth devices, Microsoft Azure Network Adapter IB (mana_ib), Linux USB Video Class driver (uvc), AMD SoundWire (soundwire-amd), DisplayPort Alternate Mode (typec_displayport), and Virtio-mem (virtio_mem) have also been added. Enhanced support for Intel processors based on the Meteor Lake microarchitecture.
- The ability to specify UUID when creating a GFS2 file system has been added (the command '-U' has been added to the mkfs.gfs2 utility).
