The release of the Linux distribution Clonezilla Live 3.3.0 has been published, designed for quick disk cloning, where only the used blocks are copied. The tasks performed by the distribution are similar to the proprietary product Norton Ghost. The size of the ISO image of the distribution is 499MB (amd64).
The distribution is based on Debian GNU/Linux and utilizes code from projects such as DRBL, Partition Image, ntfsclone, partclone, and udpcast. Booting from CD/DVD, USB Flash, and over the network (PXE) is possible. LVM2 and file systems ext2, ext3, ext4, reiserfs, reiser4, xfs, jfs, btrfs, f2fs, nilfs2, FAT12, FAT16, FAT32, NTFS, HFS+, UFS, minix, VMFS3, and VMFS5 (VMware ESX) are supported. A mass cloning mode over the network is available, including traffic transmission in multicast mode, allowing simultaneous cloning of the source disk to a large number of client machines. Cloning from one disk to another, as well as creating backups via saving a disk image to a file, is possible. Cloning can occur at the level of entire disks or individual partitions.
In the new version:
- Synchronization with the Debian Sid package base has been completed as of October 17.
- The Linux kernel has been updated to version 6.16 (previously 6.14).
- The Partclone toolkit has been updated to version 0.3.38, which resolves some issues encountered while working with Btrfs.
- In expert mode, the ability to create images for block devices MTD and bootable eMMC drives has been implemented. Options for saving and restoring such images include '-smtd', '-smmcb', '-rmtd' and '-rmmcb'.
- A utility called ocs-live-gen-ubrd has been added to attach the OCS zip file to a bootable raw image for creating a live image with U-Boot support.
- The utility ocs-blkdev-sorter has been included, allowing the creation of aliases for block devices in the /dev/ocs-disks/ directory through udev (ensuring consistent ordering of block device output). The option '-uoab' has been added for selecting block device alias names in the utilities ocs-sr and ocs-live-feed-img.
- The performance of the utilities ocs-get-dev-info and ocs-blk-dev-info has been improved.
- A utility called ocs-cmd-screen-sample has been added, which can be used with the 'run again' script in screen, tmux, and the console.
- The selection of locale and keyboard layout has been moved to the login shell. The fbterm is used by default for selecting locale and keyboard layout.
- A mechanism has been added for automatically setting the console font size based on the number of lines and columns in the console.
- The utility ocs-live-time-sync has been added, used in ocs-live-netcfg for synchronizing accurate time.
- The ability to set the time zone based on BIOS time without the need for network access has been added.
- The package 'upower' has been added to the live build.
- A mechanism for checking the usage of LVM partitions with dynamic storage allocation (thin provisioning) has been added.
