The release of the distribution for creating routers and firewalls, IPFire 2.27 Core 182, has been published. IPFire features a simple installation process and an intuitive web interface filled with informative graphs. The size of the installation iso image is 423 MB (x86_64, AArch64).
The system is modular; in addition to basic packet filtering and traffic management functions, modules are available for IPFire that implement an attack prevention system based on Suricata, as well as for creating file servers server (Samba, FTP, NFS), mail servers (Cyrus-IMAPd, Postfix, Spamassassin, ClamAV, and Openmailadmin), and print servers (CUPS), organizing a VoIP gateway based on Asterisk and Teamspeak, creating a wireless access point, and setting up an audio and video streaming server (MPFire, Videolan, Icecast, Gnump3d, VDR). A special package manager called Pakfire is used to install add-ons in IPFire.
In the new release:
- By default, outgoing SMTP traffic blocking is enabled in new installations to prevent email spam from computers in the internal network that are infected with malware.
