Release of Manjaro Linux 20.1 distribution

Introduced the release of the distribution Manjaro Linux 20.1, built on Arch Linux and aimed at beginner users. The distribution is notable features a simplified and user-friendly installation process, automatic hardware detection, and installation of the necessary drivers. Manjaro is provided as live images with desktop environments KDE (2.9 GB), GNOME (2.6 GB), and Xfce (2.6 GB). In collaboration with the community additional boot images are being developed based on builds with Budgie, Cinnamon, Deepin, LXDE, LXQt, MATE, and i3.

To manage repositories in Manjaro, a proprietary tool called BoxIt is used, designed after Git. The repository follows a rolling update principle, but new versions undergo an additional stabilization phase. Besides its own repository, it supports the use of the AUR repository (Arch User Repository). The distribution comes with a graphical installer and a graphical interface for configuring the system.

The new version continues to refine the flagship user environment based on Xfce 4.14, which comes with the 'Matcha' theme and is expanded with the 'Display-Profiles' mechanism, allowing separate profiles with screen settings to be saved.

The KDE-based edition introduces a new release of the Plasma 5.19 desktop. It includes a complete set of Breath2-themes, including light and dark versions, animated splash screen, profiles for Konsole, and skins for Yakuake. Instead of the traditional Kickoff-Launcher application menu, the Plasma-Simplemenu package is offered. KDE applications have been updated to the August release of KDE-Apps 20.08.

The GNOME-based edition continues to ship with GNOME 3.36. Improved login and screen lock interfaces, as well as applications for managing GNOME Shell extensions. A 'Do Not Disturb' mode has been implemented, temporarily disabling notification output. By default, zsh is offered as the command shell. The GDM display manager and the application for switching desktop environment themes (switching between Manjaro, Vanilla GNOME, Mate/GNOME2, Windows, macOS, and Unity/Ubuntu) have been updated.

The Pamac package manager has been updated to release 9.5, which accelerates dependency resolution, improves error handling, and optimizes the search implementation. It enables building packages from AUR and installing them in one go. The Architect console build provides the option to install on ZFS partitions. The Linux kernel has been updated to version 5.8.
