The release of the desktop-oriented distribution GhostBSD 19.04 has taken place, built on the basis of TrueOS and offering the MATE desktop environment. By default, GhostBSD uses the OpenRC initialization system and the ZFS file system. Both live mode operation and installation on a hard drive are supported (the custom installer ginstall, written in Python, is used). Boot images are created for the amd64 architecture (2.7 GB).
In the new version:
- The code base has been updated to the experimental branch FreeBSD 13.0-CURRENT;
- The installer has added support for the ZFS file system on MBR partitions;
- To improve UFS installation support, ZFS settings that were used by default in TrueOS have been removed;
- The Lightdm session manager has replaced slim;
- gksu has been removed from the distribution;
- A 'boot_mute' mode has been added for booting without logging output on the screen;
- A settings block for the rEFInd boot manager has been added to the installer.
