Release of the LDL 0.2 graphical library, optimized for low-power systems

The release of the multimedia library LDL 0.2 (Little DirectMedia Layer) has been announced, enabling the creation of graphical applications that can run on both modern and legacy systems (Windows 95+, macOS/OS X/Mac OS X 10.6+, Linux kernel distributions 2.0+, FreeBSD 3.0+). It offers a simple cross-platform API for window management and event handling from input devices. OpenGL 1.0-4.6 can be used for rendering. The code is written in C and is distributed under the LGPL 3.0 license.

In the new release:

  • A universal 2D renderer has been added, allowing the display of primitives and textures with and without transparency. It supports operation on graphics cards with OpenGL 1.2, 2.0, or 3.0 support. The implementation uses an optimization that initially places data in the rendering buffer, sorts by layer and texture, and then transforms it into geometry.
  • An experimental 3D renderer has been added, which supports working over different versions of OpenGL but provides a unified API.
  • A binding for the C++ language has been implemented.

The next version is planned to focus on improving the universal 3D API, adding audio support, preparing documentation, and providing bindings for other languages.
