IPFire is a lightweight Linux distribution designed for use on network devices, particularly in firewalls. The distribution is managed via a web interface for easier access.
The new update, named Core 139, includes:
- Improved boot and reconnect: remote scripts have been cleaned up to avoid unnecessary delays after the system is leased from the internet service provider's DHCP. This allows the system to restore the connection more quickly after losing internet access, with booting and connecting also occurring faster.
- Improvements to the intrusion prevention system: this core update includes various minor bug fixes that enhance the IPS with each release.
- To take advantage of deeper DNS packet analysis, the IPS now reports on the system's use of specific DNS servers.
