The release of the Pidgin 2.14.14 instant messaging client has been announced, supporting networks such as XMPP, Bonjour, Gadu-Gadu, IRC, and Novell GroupWise. The graphical interface of Pidgin is built using the GTK library and supports tabs, a unified address book, and simultaneous operation across different networks. Plugins can be used to extend functionality and add support for new protocols, including a plugin for WhatsApp support.
The new version provides support for builds in GCC 14 and GCC 15, resolves the issue with pop-up warnings about certificates when using the NSS library, improves support for Fedora 40 and Debian 13. Support for tags to display italic text in messages received via IRC has been added. The ability to execute arbitrary commands during the build process (CUSTOM_AUTHENTICODE=command in local.mak) for digitally signing executable files has been implemented.
