The release of LanguageTool 5.5, free software for grammar, spelling, punctuation, and style checking, has occurred. The program is available both as an extension for LibreOffice and Apache OpenOffice, as well as standalone console and graphical applications, and a web server. In addition, an interactive grammar and spelling checking form is available on languagetool.org. The program is offered both as an extension for LibreOffice and Apache OpenOffice, and as an independent version with web integration.proxy server.
Java 8 or a newer version is required for the core code and standalone applications for LibreOffice and Apache OpenOffice. Compatibility with Amazon Corretto 8+ is ensured, including with the extensions for LibreOffice. The core of the program is distributed under the LGPL license. There are third-party plugins for integration with other programs, such as extensions for Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Opera, and Safari, as well as for Google Docs (text editor) and Word 2016+.
In the new version:
- New rules have been created and existing rules updated for punctuation and grammar checking for Russian, English, Ukrainian, French, German, Portuguese, Catalan, Dutch, and Spanish languages.
- Built-in dictionaries have been updated.
- The integration code with LibreOffice and Apache OpenOffice has been updated and fixed.
Changes for the Russian module include:
- New grammatical rules have been created and existing ones improved.
- Built-in dictionaries have been updated and revamped.
- Rules for operation in 'strict' mode of browser extensions have been activated.
