The developers of Linux Mint announced the release of version 22.1, codenamed "Xia". The system has LTS (Long Term Support) status with support until 2029. The distribution is based on Ubuntu 24.04 and runs on the Linux 6.8 kernel.
Package Management Update
Aptkit replaces aptdaemon for package management. Captain combines the features of GDebi and apturl. The update improved localization, reduced errors, and added a graphical interface for managing third-party packages.
Power Management
The system has three power consumption modes:
- Power Saver — reduces performance to save battery life.
- Balanced — adjusts performance based on current tasks.
- Performance — available on compatible systems.
Cinnamon 6.4 Update
The Cinnamon desktop has been updated to version 6.4:
- New design with rounded elements

- Night Light feature to reduce eye strain

Technical Features
The shutdown time in the new version has been shortened to 10 seconds. If you need to increase the wait time, users can change the value in the file /etc/systemd/system.conf.d/60_custom.conf.
The developers disabled the Snap Store by default. Manual activation is required to enable it.
The system uses updated Ubuntu fonts with a thinner weight. If desired, the old version of the fonts can be restored by downloading the corresponding package.
The operating system has switched to the Pipewire sound server. In case of audio issues, it is possible to revert to PulseAudio by removing the pipewire packages and rebooting the system.
A regression in working with NTFS partitions has been discovered in kernel 6.8. If a mounting error occurs, the Disks utility should be used to recover the file system.
Support for ZFS has been removed from the installer due to low demand and support complexity.
In case of boot problems, it is recommended to:
- use Compatibility Mode;
- add the nomodeset parameter to the boot options;
- for Nvidia graphics cards, install the proprietary drivers through the Driver Manager.
If using a high-resolution (HiDPI) monitor, it is recommended to install the grub2-theme-mint-2k package for proper bootloader scaling.
When using a touchpad, you can choose between the libinput (default) and synaptics drivers. Switching is done by installing the appropriate packages.
