The release of Alpine Linux 3.14 has taken place, a minimalist distribution built on the Musl system library and BusyBox utility set. This distribution features enhanced security requirements and is assembled with Stack Smashing Protection (SSP). It uses OpenRC as the initialization system, and its own package manager, apk, is utilized for package management. Alpine is used to create official Docker container images. Bootable ISO images (x86_64, x86, armhf, aarch64, armv7, ppc64le, s390x, mips64) have been prepared in five versions: standard (143 MB), with a patch-free kernel (155 MB), extended (615 MB), and for of virtual machines (45 MB).
The new release updates package versions, including releases of HAProxy 2.4.0, KDE Apps 21.04.2, nginx 1.20.0, njs 0.5.3, Node.js 14.17.0, KDE Plasma 5.22.0, PostgreSQL 13.3, Python 3.9.5, R 4.1.0, QEMU 6.0.0, and Zabbix 5.4.1. It includes a package with Lua 5.4.3.
