The release of the minimalist web browser links 2.22 has taken place, supporting both console and graphical modes. In console mode, it allows for color display and mouse control if supported by the terminal in use (e.g., xterm). The graphical mode supports image rendering and font smoothing. Table and frame rendering is ensured in all modes. The browser supports HTML 4.0 specifications but ignores CSS and JavaScript. It also features bookmark support, SSL/TLS, background downloads, and management through a menu system. When running, links consumes about 2.5 MB of RAM in text mode and 4.5 MB in graphical mode.
Among the changes in the new release:
- The ability to save and restore console state has been added (you can switch between the browser and console content) using the 'cons.saver' handler from the Midnight Commander project.
- The ability to save and restore terminal state using xterm escape codes has been added.
- Support for UTF-8 frame characters has been added.
- The issue with displaying non-printable characters has been resolved.
