Updates for Ubuntu Touch firmware 24.04-1.2 and 20.04 OTA-12 have been released, based on the package bases of Ubuntu 24.04 and Ubuntu 20.04. The firmware is being developed by the UBports project, which took over the development of the Ubuntu Touch mobile platform after Canonical distanced itself from it. The project is also developing an experimental port of the Unity 8 desktop, renamed Lomiri.
The Ubuntu Touch 24.04-1.2 update will be rolled out in the coming days for devices such as Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1, F(x)tec Pro1 X, Fairphone 3/3+/4/5, Google Pixel 3a/3a XL, JingPad A1, Oneplus 5/5T/6/6T, OnePlus Nord N10 5G/N100, Sony Xperia X, Vollaphone X/22/X23, Xiaomi Poco X3 NFC / X3, Xiaomi Poco M2 Pro, Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 Pro/Pro Max/9S, Volla Phone Quintus, Volla Tablet, Lenovo Tab M10 HD 2nd Gen, Rabbit R1, and Xiaomi Redmi 9/9 Prime.
Changes in Ubuntu Touch 24.04-1.2 include improved stability when using VoLTE (Voice over LTE), a technology for voice transmission over LTE networks. Issues with booting on Sony Xperia X devices, switching carriers for data transmission on smartphones with dual SIM cards, and receiving broadcast messages from cellular networks have been resolved. Importing ics files into the calendar-scheduler has been streamlined.
