The release of the lightweight window manager IceWM 3.4.0 is now available. IceWM provides full management through keyboard shortcuts, supports the use of virtual desktops, taskbars, and application menus, and allows for window grouping using tabs. The window manager is configured through a fairly simple configuration file, with options for theme customization. Tabbed window grouping is supported. Built-in applets for monitoring CPU, memory, and traffic are available. Several third-party GUIs for configuration, desktop implementations, and menu editors are also being developed. The code is written in C++ and is distributed under the GPLv2 license.
The new version includes improvements for keyboard shortcut management. UTF-8 support has been added for character layouts (code point), along with the ability to bind to key codes that change value when Shift is pressed, and to symbolic literals from the Latin-1 encoding. Updates to keyboard bindings are implemented after switching keyboard layouts.
