The release of the lightweight window manager IceWM 3.6.0 is now available. IceWM provides full control through keyboard shortcuts, the ability to use virtual desktops, taskbars, and application menus, and it supports tabbed grouping of windows. The window manager is configured through a relatively simple configuration file, and theming is possible. Support is available for grouping windows in the form of tabs. Built-in applets are available for monitoring CPU, memory, and traffic. Several third-party GUIs for configuration, desktop implementations, and menu editors are being developed separately. The code is written in C++ and distributed under the GPLv2 license.
Among the changes in the new version:
- The ability to expand only the selected side of a window to full screen has been added, using a double-click on the window's border on the desired side. A repeated double-click returns the expanded side of the window to its previous state.
- The address bar (an embedded shell in the taskbar for command input) now supports the input of combined characters using compose sequences.
- Duplicate requests from GNOME for resizing or moving a window are now ignored.
- The ability to move a window by dragging it while holding down the right mouse button has returned.
- Protection against creating invalid workspaces has been added.
- Updates have been made to translations for Kazakh and Georgian languages.
