The release of the lightweight window manager IceWM 3.7.0 is now available. IceWM provides full management through keyboard shortcuts, the ability to use virtual desktops, taskbars, and application menus, and tabbed grouping of windows. The window manager is configured via a fairly simple configuration file, allowing for theme support. It supports window tabbing. Built-in applets are available for monitoring CPU, memory, and traffic. Several third-party GUIs are being developed for configuration, desktop implementations, and menu editors. The code is written in C++ and is distributed under the GPLv2 license.
Among the changes in the new version:
- A setting ColorQuickSwitchBorder has been added to specify the color of the border for the window switching interface.
- The ability to apply themes to widgets on the taskbar used for monitoring CPU, memory, network activity, and power consumption has been added.
- In the hotkey settings, it is now possible to use a single rule to handle key presses associated with the same character.
- Support for the operation “_NET_WM_MOVERESIZE_CANCEL” has been added.
- The icesh command now includes an option “-Await” to wait for and select new client windows. UTF-8 encoding is allowed in icesh properties.
- Support for moving fullscreen windows by holding down the Shift key has been added.
- Support for AVIF format images has been added to icewmbg.
- The capabilities of the menu generator icewm-menu-fdo have been expanded.
