The release of the lightweight window manager IceWM 3.8.0 is now available. IceWM provides full management through keyboard shortcuts, the possibility of using virtual desktops, taskbars, and application menus, and tabs can be used for grouping windows. The window manager is configured through a fairly simple configuration file, and themes can be applied. Window grouping in the form of tabs is supported. Built-in applets are available to monitor CPU, memory, and traffic. Several third-party GUIs for configuration, desktop implementations, and menu editors are being developed separately. The code is written in C++ and is distributed under the GPLv2 license.
Among the changes in the new version:
- The Themes menu now features a button for minimizing the window as a demonstration of the icon style for each theme.
- The loading speed of the Themes menu has been accelerated.
- The CPU load has been reduced when using the widget for monitoring memory and CPU usage.
- Additional links to guides have been added to the Help menu.
- Hotkey transformations to uppercase have been implemented according to the current locale.
- In the icesh and icewmbg utilities, a nondeterministic random number generator has been implemented (instead of the 'rand()' function, 'arc4random_uniform()' is now called).
