Release of Oracle Linux 8

Oracle Corporation released the release of the distribution Oracle Linux 8, based on the package base Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8. The build is delivered by default based on the standard package with a kernel from Red Hat Enterprise Linux (based on kernel 4.18). The Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel for Oracle Linux 8 is still under development.

In terms of functionality, the beta releases of Oracle Linux 8 and RHEL 8 are fully identical. New features, such as the replacement of iptables with nftables, the modular AppStream repository, and the transition to the DNF package manager instead of YUM, can be explored in the overview of RHEL 8.

For download prepared installation ISO image, sized at 6.6 GB, prepared for the x86_64 architecture. For Oracle Linux also is open unlimited and free access to the yum repository with binary package updates addressing bugs (errata) and security issues. Also available for download are separately supported Application Stream modules.
