The release of Polemarch 3.0.0 has taken place, a web interface for managing server infrastructure based on Ansible. The project code is written in Python and JavaScript using the Django and Celery frameworks. The project is licensed under AGPLv3. To launch the system, it is sufficient to install the package and start one service. For industrial use, it is recommended to additionally use MySQL/PostgreSQL and Redis/RabbitMQ+Redis (cache and MQ broker). A Docker image is created for each version.
Key Changes:
- Migration to the new Rest API v4 and the minimum supported Python version 3.8 has occurred. This transition was necessary to improve support for the new plugin and extension system, as well as to speed up development. Some duplicative elements were also simplified for more logical and intuitive template and scheduling management.
- New inventory plugins have been added, allowing the use of standard inventory plugins such as scripts or ini/yaml/json strings. A plugin system for inventory has also been developed, enabling custom plugin implementations from various sources.
- The launch plugin system, released in the previous version, has been improved. Now, custom implementations for launching additional commands, such as bash scripts, terraform, or helm, can be written. As part of the refactoring, plugin support in templates and schedules has been added. Additionally, it is now possible to create a chain of calls for pre-initialization in the repository within the plugins.
- An extension system for logging lines from output to various storage options has been implemented. Out of the box, a plugin for writing to a database and a python-logger that can send output to stdout, a file, or syslog is now included.
- Message queues now exchange json messages instead of pickle. Serialization and deserialization of data for sending to the queue has also been accelerated.
- The user interface has been improved, and integration for auto-updating using Centrifugo has been enhanced.
- Key dependencies have been updated, such as Django, reducing the list of necessary dependencies (for example, native support for redis for caching).
