After six months of development, the UBports project, which took over the development of the mobile platform Ubuntu Touch after Canonical stepped back, has released the OTA-5 Focal (over-the-air) firmware. This is the fourth release of Ubuntu Touch, based on the package base of Ubuntu 20.04. The project is also developing an experimental desktop port of Unity 8, renamed Lomiri.
The Ubuntu Touch OTA-5 Focal update will soon be available for devices including Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1, F(x)tec Pro1 X, Fairphone 3/3+/4, Google Pixel 3a/3a XL, JingPad A1, Oneplus 5/5T/6/6T, Sony Xperia X, Vollaphone X/22/X23, and Xiaomi Poco X3 NFC/X3. Compared to the previous version, there will be no builds for OnePlus One, Samsung Galaxy S7, Xiaomi Redmi Note 9/9 Pro/9 Pro Max/9S, and Xiaomi Poco M2 Pro.
It is noted that this release mainly focuses on bug fixes. Among the notable changes:
- The power consumption profile system now includes the ability to separately handle the constant consumption mode and interactive mode on supported devices.
- The issue with migrating settings from Ubuntu Touch based on Ubuntu 16.04 to Ubuntu Touch OTA-5 Focal based on Ubuntu 20.04 has been fixed.
- Notifications have been added for calendar synchronization failures due to authentication issues, allowing users to enter a new password.
