The release of StartWine-Launcher 412 has been published, developed for running programs and games compiled for the Windows platform on Linux systems. The main goal of developing StartWine-Launcher was to simplify the process of creating Wine prefixes for beginners — sets of libraries and Windows dependencies necessary for running Windows applications on Linux. The StartWine-Launcher code is written in Python and is distributed under the GPLv3 license. The interface is based on the GTK library.
Key Changes:
- Updated the list of Wine, dxvk, and vkd3d versions. Added older versions of Wine staging and Proton Ge.
- A backup creation feature for saves has been added. Now they will be created automatically every 5 days after closing the game or application.
- Tuning parameters for advanced users have been added to the app_config configuration files.
- The display of pop-ups has been restored in OpenGL and Vulkan modes.
- The shader cache is by default placed in the directory "/home/user/.cache".
- The Huggingface repository has been added for downloading and installing StartWine.
- The loading logic of Proton Ge has been changed — when loaded in StartWine, it appears in the native Steam directory "/home/user/.steam/root/compatibilitytools.d".
- Helper functions in sw_runlib have been fixed.
- The automatic installation of EA Launcher has been corrected.
- The function for updating StarWine through the graphical interface has been fixed.
