The second distribution released after Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.9 and Euro Linux 8.9 is unexpectedly Rocky Linux.
The founder of the distribution is Georg Kutsar, one of the founders of CentOS, who is also the founder of CtrlIQ. CtrlIQ is a member of the OpenELA clone association. The distribution is fully binary compatible with RHEL 8.9 and currently focuses on maintaining that compatibility going forward, just like another member of the OpenELA clone association — Oracle.
Companies such as Google, Amazon Web Services, GitLab, MontaVista, 45Drives, OpenDrives, and NAVER Cloud have joined in the development and funding of the Rocky Linux project.
