The Head of the Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Media, Alexander Zharov, announced that the Kaspersky Secure Connection service has been added to the register of banned websites. Other VPN services that received a notification to connect to the register refused to comply with the law prohibiting bypassing restrictions.
According to Mr. Zharov, nine VPN services that did not comply with the regulatory authority's requirement to connect to the state information system for restricting access to banned websites will be blocked within a month. He also reminded that out of ten services that received the relevant notification, only one connected to the register. The other nine companies did not respond to the Roskomnadzor's request and posted a message on their websites stating that they do not intend to comply with Russian legislation. In such a situation, the law is interpreted unequivocally: if a company refuses to operate within the framework of current legislation, it must be blocked.
It should be noted that Mr. Zharov did not specify the date from which to count the month until the decision on blocking comes into effect. VPN-services. He also noted that the agency will continue communication with five companies that did not explicitly refuse. In addition, the Head of Roskomnadzor assured that the adoption of the law on a sovereign Internet will not mark the beginning of a complete isolation of the RuNet.
