The Roskomnadzor has announced an addition to the list of blocked VPN providers, whose activities have been deemed unacceptable for providing a means to bypass restrictions on access to content considered illegal in Russia. In addition to VyprVPN and OperaVPN, the block will now extend to Hola VPN, ExpressVPN, KeepSolid VPN Unlimited, Nord VPN, Speedify VPN, and IPVanish VPN, which received a warning in June demanding a connection to the state information system (FGIS), but ignored it or refused to cooperate with Roskomnadzor.
Interestingly, unlike previous blockages, 'whitelists' have been formed 'to exclude violations of software and application operations that do not violate Russian legislation and utilize VPN services for technological purposes.' The whitelist, for which blocking should not apply, VPN, includes over 100 IP addresses owned by 64 organizations using VPNs to secure their technological processes.
