After almost three years, the releases of 2.0.0 and 2.0.1 of the offline translator for Android have taken place. RTranslator, developed in C++ and Java, and distributed under the Apache 2.0 license.
The application requires a sufficiently fast smartphone with at least 6GB of memory.
Supported languages: Arabic, Bulgarian, Catalan, Chinese, Czech, Danish, German, Greek, English, Spanish, Finnish, French, Croatian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Dutch, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Slovak, Swedish, Tamil, Thai, Turkish, Ukrainian, Urdu, and Vietnamese.
After installation, the application downloads approximately 1.2GB of data.
The program operates in three modes:
- text translation;
- speech recognition and real-time translation;
- conversation mode – connecting via Bluetooth to another device with RTranslator installed.
New versions include:
- using AI models Meta NLLB for translation, and OpenAI Whisper for speech recognition instead of using Google API;
- added a classic text translation mode;
- improved Bluetooth LE device searching;
- enhanced handling of missing TTS (text-to-speech);
- fixed some bugs.
