Sega and Atlus have announced that sales of the Persona series have reached 10 million copies. It took nearly a quarter of a century to achieve this.
The developer Atlus also plans to hold an event where it will share more about the upcoming Persona 5 Royal, which is an updated version of the role-playing game . Persona 5 Royal will be released on October 31 exclusively for PlayStation 4. It will undoubtedly contribute significantly to the overall sales of Persona in the future.
In October 2018, Sega announced that the Persona series had reached 9.3 million copies sold. Since then, Persona Q2: New Cinema Labyrinth was released for Nintendo 3DS — first in Japan, and then almost a year later worldwide. This title likely helped the franchise reach the 10 million mark.
The first Persona game debuted in 1996 as a spin-off of Shin Megami Tensei. The franchise gained recognition in the West with Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 for PlayStation 3 and Persona 4 Golden for PlayStation Vita. Since then, the series has garnered a large audience.
