The Chinese state news agency "Xinhua" and TASS presented the world's first Russian-speaking virtual news anchor with artificial intelligence at the 23rd St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. to the public.
It was developed by Sogou, and the prototype was based on a TASS employee named Liza. It is reported that her voice, facial expressions, and lip movements were used to train a deep neural network. After that, a digital twin was created that imitates a living person.
"The unique feature of the AI news anchor is that it can adapt its articulation, gestures, and facial expressions to the content of the text being read. The virtual news anchor will continually learn, further enhancing and improving its broadcasting abilities," said Cai Mingzhao, General Director of Xinhua.
TASS head Sergey Mikhailov expressed hope for further cooperation with Chinese media in the field of artificial intelligence and beyond. It should be noted that previously, Chinese media had already used virtual news anchors with artificial intelligence, consisting of male and female doubles broadcasting in Chinese and English.
The advantages of such an anchor are obvious — there’s no salary to pay, their appearance can be easily changed, they do not make mistakes, and they can work around the clock. At the same time, it should be noted that artificial intelligence, according to scientists, will in the future take over intellectual fields from humans, leaving only low-skilled or monotonous work for the 'crown of creation.'
