At the end of 2018, the microblogging service Tumblr, owned by Verizon along with the other assets of Yahoo, changed its rules for users. Since then, it has been prohibited to post 'adult' content on the site, although prior to that, starting in 2007, everything was limited to filtering and 'parental controls.' As a result, the site lost about a third of its traffic within just three months.
Now, there is information that the owner is looking for buyers for the service. Interestingly, one of the potential clients is the largest adult site, Pornhub. They , in response to inquiries from BuzzFeed News journalists, stated that they are 'extremely interested' in purchasing Tumblr and would like to bring 'adult' content back to the platform. This was reported by Pornhub's vice president, Corey Price.
There have been no comments from Verizon on this matter yet. However, it is not excluded that the company may agree to such an outcome, as Tumblr has failed to become a profitable source as Yahoo and Verizon had anticipated. Given the intense competition in the social media and microblogging service markets, Tumblr has little else to offer users.
Of course, one should not rule out that this is just a piece of information to draw attention to the platform and increase its value. According to SensorTower, in the last quarter, the number of new mobile users on the service reached its lowest level since the fourth quarter of 2013. Compared to the first quarter of 2018, it has decreased by about 40%.
