Snoop, a tool for gathering user information from open sources

Release of the project published Snoop 1.1.6_eng, developing forensic capabilities OSINT tool, which searches for user accounts in public data. The program analyzes various websites, forums, and social networks to find the desired username, allowing you to identify which sites a user with the specified nickname is present. The release is notable for expanding the checked resource database to 666 sites, many of which are Russian-speaking. Builds are prepared for Linux and Windows. The code is written in Python and is distributed is licensed under the MIT License.

The project is a fork of the codebase of the project Sherlock, with some improvements and modifications:

  • The Snoop database is three times larger than the Sherlock (Kali Linux) database and twice as large as the Sherlock database from GitHub.
  • Snoop has fewer false positive errors, which occur with all similar tools (for example, comparing websites like eBay), due to modifications in the working algorithm.
  • New options and the removal of outdated options.
  • Support for sorting and HTML format.
  • Improved informative output.

The tool is also adapted for searching in the Russian-speaking segment, which is a huge advantage compared to similar OSINT tools. Initially, there was an intention to significantly update the Sherlock project's database concerning the CIS, but at some point, Sherlock changed its course and stopped accepting updates (after approximately 1/3 of the entire database had been updated), explaining this situation as "restructuring" the project and nearing a limit on the number of resources in its site database. This refusal led to the creation of a fork. In its current form, the Snoop supported database is larger than the Spiderfoot, Sherlock, and Namechk databases combined.
