Valve has released the Proton 10.0-3 project, based on the Wine codebase and aimed at enabling the launch of Linux applications built for Windows and featured in the Steam catalog. The 10.0-3 release marks the first stable version in the 10.0 branch (previous updates in this branch were labeled as beta versions). The project's developments are distributed under the BSD license.
Proton allows direct launching of gaming applications provided only for Windows in the Linux Steam client. The package includes implementations of DirectX 8/9/10/11 (based on the DXVK package) and DirectX 12 (based on vkd3d-proton), functioning through the translation of DirectX calls to the Vulkan API. It offers improved controller support and the ability to use full-screen mode regardless of the resolutions supported by the games. To enhance the performance of multi-threaded games, it supports mechanisms such as 'esync' (Eventfd Synchronization) and 'futex/fsync'.
Changes in the new version of Proton include:
- Synchronized with the Wine 10.0 release.
- Updated DXVK layer to version 2.6.2, translating calls to the Vulkan API.
- Updated VKD3D-Proton to version 2.14.1, a fork of vkd3d created by Valve to enhance Direct3D 12 support in Proton.
- The Dxvk-nvapi package implementing the NVAPI library over DXVK has been updated to version 0.9.0.
- The Wine Mono engine with .NET platform implementation has been updated to release 10.0.0.
- The vkd3d package has been updated to version 1.17, implementing Direct3D 12 through call translation to the Vulkan graphics API.
- The Xalia gamepad interface has been updated to version 0.4.6.
- Support for Steamworks SDK 1.62 has been added.
