On April 5th, quietly and unnoticeably, version 26.1 of the popular free cross-platform planetarium was released Stellarium – the first one this year.
The project is written in C++ using the Qt framework (supporting versions 5 and 6) and is distributed under the GNU GPL 2.0 license.
The main changes in this version:
- two new Chinese sky cultures have been added: the Manchu and Xianglin Star Chart;
- a plugin has been added Time Navigator;
- many improvements in Windows/arm64 support;
- many significant improvements and updates to sky cultures;
- many plugin improvements;
- many enhancements to the core program and GUI.
Other changes:
- support for non-standard regions in the list of sky cultures has been added;
- the ability to change the line density of the grid has been added;
- the ability to disable the display of OAG angular constraints has been added;
- image magnification of the Moon based on the viewing angle has been added;
- in the plugin Time Navigator planetary events have been added;
- missing points in the spoken text have been added;
- enhancements for ASCOM telescopes have been added;
- a new time step has been supported: Metonic Cycle;
- examples of object selection on the surface of a planet have been added in scripts;
- in the plugin Solar System Editor a link to a list of bright minor planets in opposition compiled by the MPC for 2026 has been added;
- the albedo texture of the Moon has been updated;
- the nomenclature of planets has been updated;
- default lists of comets, minor planets, and exoplanets have been updated;
- Updated localizations;
- data on the discovery of comets and minor planets has been updated;
- data on the photometry of artificial satellites has been updated;
- the deep space object (DSO) catalog has been updated to version 3.23;
- a description of movement control keys has been added to the 3D landscapes plugin;
- other improvements and bug fixes.
