The well-known system manager for GNU/Linux has prepared another release numbered 246.
In this release:
- automatic loading of AppArmor security rules
- support for checking disk encryption in units using ConditionPathIsEncrypted=/AssertPathIsEncrypted=
- support for checking environment variables ConditionEnvironment=/AssertEnvironment=
- support for verifying digital signatures of partitions (dm-verity) in .service units
- the ability to pass keys and certificates through AF_UNIX sockets without the need to save them to a file
- additional specifiers in unit templates for various parameters from /etc/os-release
- support for .include has been removed from unit files (declared deprecated 6 years ago)
- support for undocumented options syslog and syslog-console for StandardError=/StandardOutput= in units has been removed — instead, modern options journal and journal+console are used
- automatic size limitations on all tmpfs mounted by systemd (/tmp, /run…)
- additional options for systemd from the kernel boot command
And much more - see. https://github.com/systemd/systemd/blob/master/NEWS
I would add that this release appears less groundbreaking than the previous one, which introduced systemd-repart, systemd-homed, and userdb. It includes just a variety of improvements, conveniences, and fixes. Nevertheless, this is unlikely to prevent keyboard warriors from organizing a symposium in the comments about the impending demise of Linux, Earth, and the observable universe.
