On March 12, the release of the new version of the Tails 4.4 distribution, based on Debian GNU/Linux, was announced.
Tails is distributed as a live image for USB flash drives and DVDs. The distribution aims to preserve privacy and anonymity while using the internet by routing traffic through Tor, leaving no traces on the computer unless specified otherwise, and allowing the use of the latest cryptographic utilities.
The main updates of the distribution:
- Tor Browser has been updated to version 9.0.6.
- Thunderbird has been updated to version 68.5.0.
- The Linux kernel has been updated to version 5.4.19.
Wi-Fi functionality has been fixed for Realtek RTL8822BE and RTL8822CE chipsets. If there were issues with Wi-Fi in versions earlier than Tails 4.1, the authors of the distribution ask you to contact them and specify whether the issues remain or have been resolved.
You can automatically upgrade to Tails 4.4 from versions Tails 4.2, 4.2.2, and 4.3.
