At the IFA 2020 electronics exhibition currently taking place in Berlin (the capital of Germany), TCL introduced a new type of display called NXTPAPER, designed for next-generation mobile devices.
The screens are intended to compete with panels based on colored electronic paper. Notably, it took two years to develop the announced technology, which is protected by eleven patents.
NXTPAPER displays do not cause eye strain due to the absence of flicker and reduced blue light emission. Compared to electronic paper, the new screens provide 25% higher contrast, and compared to traditional LCD panels, they achieve a 65% reduction in power consumption and a 36% decrease in thickness. The displays utilize reflective technology.
NXTPAPER screens produce a full-color image in Full HD format. Such panels can be used in tablet computers. Additionally, these displays are noted to be suitable for viewing video content.
There is currently no information on when NXTPAPER-based gadgets will hit the commercial market.
